Mazda introduces range-wide smartphone mirroring

Time to play: Mazda will finally roll out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across its entire range.

Apple CarPlay/Android Auto upgrade available on all post-2014 Mazdas with MZD

31 Oct 2018

MAZDA has announced it will be rolling out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility across all of its new models, while existing models from 2014 onwards equipped with the brand’s MZD can have the infotainment technology retrofitted for a $494.98 price.

The technology will be gradually rolled out on new models as they are updated or launched.

The BT-50 pick-up was the first current Mazda model equipped with the technology, due to its use of an Alpine head unit instead of the MZD Connect system. The CX-9 large SUV also scored the technology when it was updated last month.

Beginning November 1, owners looking to purchase the retrofit are encouraged to visit their Mazda dealership, where the hardware and software install is completed in “several hours”.

The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems allow the driver to connect and project their phone to the car’s infotainment display screen, integrating with the steering wheel controls and voice commands to allow hands-free phone operation.

Mazda Australia managing director Vinesh Bhindi said the addition of the technology would help increase the popularity of its offerings.

“The ability to fully integrate this technology into our existing offering will give Australians another reason to choose Mazda, but we are especially happy that it is something we can offer to our existing community of customers,” he said.

Through the first nine months of the year Mazda has sold 86,074 vehicles, down 4.2 per cent on the 89,863 it sold to the same point last year but still enough to retain second place on the overall sales ladder behind Toyota.

The Mazda3 small car has been the brand’s best seller with 24,344 units, followed by the CX-5 medium SUV with 20,185.
