Polestar 6 roadster pays Oz a visit

Striking viking lobs Down Under for promo talks among would-be buyers for Polestar 6

9 Nov 2022

FOLLOWING an overwhelming response to the Polestar 6 electric roadster concept at Monterey Car Festival 2022, where Polestar unsurprisingly sold out its entire 500-unit production run of the the sleek, high-performance EV, the show car will make its first appearance Down Under this month at Polestar events in Brisbane and Melbourne.

After these events, it will be on brief public display in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne .

Moving rapidly to carve a solid foothold in this country, from November 14 the Swedish electric performance car brand will preview what it sees as the future of electric mobility at a series of events here and give locals their first look at the striking vehicle in the metal (and various exotic materials).

In addition to displaying the new roadster concept, Polestar will use the events to showcase its vision for future pure electric sportscars as well as the brand’s design, technology and sustainability ambitions.

After breaking cover back in March this year, it became clear the Polestar O2 roadster concept would form the basis of a production model, which morphed into the Polestar 6 that is due to start rolling off the assembly line in late 2025.

The hard-top convertible will be built on Polestar’s bespoke bonded aluminium platform, similar in concept to Lotus.

Developed in-house, it will feature the high-performance, 800-volt electric architecture already confirmed for the Polestar 5. This includes output of up to 650kW and 900Nm from a dual-motor powertrain, a targeted 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h.

Along with the striking blue exterior, the first batch of Polestar 6s will feature a light leather interior and 21-inch wheels inspired by the original Polestar O2 concept that was influenced by aerospace design, both aesthetically and aerodynamically.

Polestar has eschewed wings and spoilers for its sportscar, instead using integrated aero ducts in the wheelarches and rear lights that double as air blades.

Stiff, responsive and light, the monocoque body is made from different grades of anodised aluminium bonded by adhesive and oven-cured to optimise its strength-to-weight ratio.

The Polestar 6 concept model will feature as the centerpiece of the Polestar Talks series, which the brand bills as “a sustainability-led panel discussion taking place in Melbourne and Brisbane this month”.

In a statement Polestar says: “The events are both a celebration of sustainability and a window into a better tomorrow, featuring key industry leaders from across the sustainability space engaging in insightful discussion that addresses the rapid need for change through design, innovation, and better business practices.”

Head of Polestar Australia, Samantha Johnson said the events will “give attendees the opportunity to hear about the incredible work some of the brightest minds in the sustainability space are doing, and their perspective on the biggest challenges we are facing in Australia”.

“Polestar electric roadster concept perfectly captures the spirit of that mission, showcasing our rapid transition toward producing a truly climate-neutral car, while demonstrating that, when it comes to sports cars, the premium choice, the fun choice, and the sustainable choice can be one and the same, ” she said.
