PEUGEOT managed to squeeze a level of standard equipment into the base model of its $28,990 4008 SUV comparable with what most contemporary rivals in the segment included on their higher-spec variants costing more than $30,000.

Highlights comprised climate-control, a reversing camera with parking sensors, automatic headlights and wipers, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, a multi-function leather steering wheel, self-dimming interior mirror, rear privacy glass, front foglights and LED daytime-running lights.

Safety systems included electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and seven airbags, including one for the driver’s knees.

Being based on and built in the same factory as Mitsubishi’s ASX , the 4008 shared the Mitsu’s 110kW/197Nm 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that consumed 7.7 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle.

A choice of six-speed manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT) auto was available on the Active base model, which was also available with either front-drive or all-wheel-drive.

The top-spec Allure variant is available only with all-wheel-drive and auto transmission and was glitzed up with Xenon headlights, leather upholstery and electrically adjustable heated front seats with height adjustment for the passenger side.

Cosmetic upgrades on the Allure included 18-inch alloy wheels, piano-black door trim strips and chrome inserts on the door sills.

A6 Avant (ad to the bottom of usual A6 stuff)In June 2012 Audi added the Avant wagon to its A6 range, available with in front-drife form only, powered by the same four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines as the entry-level sedan.

Equipment levels were similar to the equivalent sedan, a powered tailgate with hands-free opening activated by making a kicking motion beneath the rear bumper and various luggage space organisation devices being the main additions to the standard specification.
