Peugeot’s lovely-to-look-at 607 was launched here late in 2001 as a luxury market challenger to BMW 5 series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6, and follows on from a model barely remembered in Australia called the 605 - that's because very few were ever sold here.
Unfortunately the 607 struggles without the prestige, refinement and technical excellence of German rivals like the 5 Series, A6 and E-class. For all its roominess, outstanding luxury items and good pricing it still lacks something – and that, essentially, is a suspension that fails to deliver what we normally expect of a quality French car.
