Audi 100C1 1001 Mar 1970 Audi changed from using numbers to an alphanumerical naming system for its model ranges after the release of the A8 and A4 in Europe during 1994. The C4-series A6 is a derivation of the C4-series Audi 100 that dates from 1991.Devised in part by an ex-Mercedes engineer, the original 100 was released locally two years after its 1968 German launch. Austere though it was, the front-wheel drive sedan garnered a faithful following with excellent interior space and exemplary road manners. Initially launched as the 100 LS and powered by a 75kW/153Nm 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine mated to either a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic gearbox, the 100 lost its square headlights for twin-round units, an 83kW/137Nm 1.9-litre engine and more equipment from early 1974. |
