Daihatsu Charade

G100 Charade

1 Jun 1987

The all-new third generation Charade, now in five-seat three-door and five-door styles, proved to be the most popular, with progressive aerodynamic styling sitting on a longer, wider track.

Interior comfort and space, handling, roadholding, ride and overall refinement all improved, although performance suffered due to added weight – the carryover 1.0L engine’s power output only went up marginally to 38kW.

In November the latter was emphatically addressed with the availability of the G102 Charade CR (sporty) and CX (luxury), which signalled the option of a zingy 66kW 1.3L 16-valve four-cylinder engine as well as the demise of the 50kW CX-T turbo.

Slight trim changes, a three-speed auto transmission option and more standard features accompanied the bigger engine availability on all models, while the base version was now the 1.0L TS three-door.

In July ’89 the first Charade sedan arrived, in high-specification SG 1.3L guise, as well as a limited edition, value-added Stratos hatch. Sales kept on booming.
