To make room for the (slightly) larger Avalon, Toyota discontinued the Vienta range (but not the V6 engine), added a Touring wagon and topped the range off with the luxury/sport V6 Azura sedan.

The only visual changes were larger tail-lights, a two-bar grille, chrome bumper inserts, new colours, revised cabin trim and larger wheels.

Handling and refinement characteristics were also improved.

A Sportivo bodykit became available, along with the value-added Camry Conquest Intrigue, from May 2001.
