A new polyethylene fuel tank provides improved resistance to fire or puncture damage. The front seat head restraint angles were changed to assist in minimising whiplash injury from rear collisions. Front and rear doors are fitted with two intrusion beams. The longer front of the Accent provides a greater crush zone for absorbing frontal impacts. Hyundai says the 30mm wider body also assists impact protection. Front seatbelts are fitted with pretensioners and load limiters to maximise belt effectiveness while minimising belt-induced injury.
