Mercedes-Benz updates its E-class luxury kingpin with a 200kW 3.5-litre V6
2 Mar 2005
MERCEDES-BENZ is bracing itself against the next-generation Lexus GS and Honda Legend – as well as the upcoming, re-engined 190kW BMW 530i and recently released Audi A6, with a sparkling new 3.5-litre V6 that has the technology, power and efficiency to make it a modern classic. It may even be enough for the W211 E-Class to keep its luxury segment crown.

Mercedes' previous-generation W210 E-Class sedan was released in Australia in November 1996 with a 162kW/315Nm 3.2-litre V6 in the E320. A revised V6 in August 1997 brought a modest power increase to 165kW, while a manual-mode auto was added in November 1999. The W210 was replaced by the current 211 model in August 2002 (with the 211 Estate appearing here in October 2003), with a carryover V6. Now it's replaced by the 200kW/350Nm 3.5-litre V6 first seen in the SLK roadster.
