BMW has announced mild styling and suspension updates to its 4 Series range of Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible models, ahead of an Australian arrival early in the second half of this year.

Following the 4 Series engines, equipment and pricing update mid-last year, the new changes are minimal, with the main aesthetic change being the adoption of bi-LED headlights and tail-lights across the range, forgoing the bi-xenon lights of the current model.

LED fog-lamps are also now standard, while adaptive LED headlights are offered as an option, and are standard on the M4 super-coupe.

The new model gets restyled air intakes, an updated rear skirtline as standard and front skirtline for Sport and Luxury Line-equipped models.

There will be two new paint colours offered on the updated 4 Series – Sunset Orange and Snapper Rocks Blue – while each of the Advantage, Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport packages gets their own specific alloy wheel design.

Inside the cabin, the refreshed model gains electroplated detailing, chrome applications, gloss-black detailing on the centre console, double stitching on the instrument panel and a choice of three new upholstery colours and wood trim finishes.

It will also come with the option of adding the Multifunctional Instrument Display, a digital instrument cluster that gives the driver the choice of different visualisation options depending on the mode selected.

Another optional feature will be the Navigation system Professional that features an interface with large tile-style control pads, which can be arranged as preferred to display a constantly updated version of the linked menu content.

Coupe and Gran Coupe variants also receive stiffer suspension tweaks, with lateral and longitudinal dynamics improved not only on standard suspension set-ups, but also M Sport and Adaptive suspension packages. High-performance tyres will be available as a factory option on 430 variants and above.

BMW Australia is still determining the positioning of the range and which variants will make it Down Under, with an announcement on Australian specification to come closer to the release date of the updated model.

BMW sold 2397 examples of the 4 Series in 2016, down on the 2779 sales it managed in 2015.

Last year it was outsold by the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe (2524) but bested the Audi A5/A5 Sportback (889), Lexus RC (518) and Porsche Cayman (285).
