Future models - BMW - 4 SeriesBMW i4 and 4 Series GranCoupe updatedProduction of facelifted BMW i4, 4 Series GranCoupe beings from July, local timing unconfirmed25 Apr 2024 By MATT BROGAN BMW has released details of its updated i4 and 4 Series GranCoupe this week ahead of production commencement in July.
While it is not yet known if the updated BMW i4 and 4 Series GranCoupe is earmarked for the Australian market, it is known that both models will receive subtle styling revisions, including new-look kidney grille, LED headlight, and alloy wheel designs, Laserlight tail-lights, and the availability of additional paint choices, including New Cape York and Fire Red metallics.
Inside, the duo scores a new steering wheel, fewer hard buttons, updated trim and garnishing, and LED ambient cabin lighting as standard.
A total of four i4 variants are now offered, including the xDrive40 dual-motor all-wheel drive with 295kW of power. The highly specified variant offers a driving range of up to 548km (WLTP). Other variants carryover, including the eDrive35, eDrive40 and M50 xDrive.
For the 4 Series Gran Coupe we find familiar four- and six-cylinder turbocharged diesel and petrol engines, many offered with 48-volt mild hybrid electrification.
BMW says its most important markets for the i4 and 4 Series GranCoupe include China, Germany, Great Britain, and the United States.
Locally, the 4 Series range is priced currently from $83,500 plus on-road costs.
GoAuto recently reported that BMW would not renew the 4 Series line-up beyond this generation.
Citing German publication BMW Blog, it is understood that there are currently “no plans to develop CLAR-based BMW 4 Series” for the next generation, the EV market forcing the famed Bavarian marque to consolidate its portfolio moving forward.
This is particularly relevant with the introduction of NCAR (electrified) platform-based models, such as the i3 Sedan and i4 Coupe, adding that the BMW Vision Neue Klasse range of models – which are expected to comprise i3 Sedan, i4 Coupe and i4 Cabriolet – will “cover this market segment comprehensively”.
