Future models - BMW - 4 SeriesUpdated BMW 4 Series range here in Q2BMW upgrades its 4 Series Coupe and Convertible range, in Australia towards mid-20245 Feb 2024 BMW has released some details and pricing – for its incoming 4 Series Coupe and Convertible two-door models, due here in Q2 starting from $109,700 excluding on road costs from the 430i Coupe.
The current offerings are priced from $81,100 and $100,400 plus on-road costs respectively.
The sporty Bimmer duo will be direct competitors for Mercedes-Benz’s new CLE Coupe and Convertible arriving here next month at an as yet undisclosed price. Throw Audi’s A5 Coupe and Convertible into the picture and you’re looking $88,200 and $102,000 plus-on road costs apiece.
As expected, BMW blows the trumpet hard for its premium medium-size two-door duo that is particularly popular in the US saying, “the number 4 stands for the perfect combination of driving pleasure and elegantly sporty design”.
Which may well be the case given the level of standard specification in the new cars which are available overseas with turbo petrol four and straight six-cylinder engines and a turbo-diesel ‘four’.
It is an evolution of the current series with a “precisely modified exterior design (to) underscore their dynamic character and exclusive style”.
BMW has introduced new equipment to both models bringing an even more premium ambience to the interior with a cutting-edge cockpit design using the nearly ubiquitous corporate curved display to access the latest (standard equipment) evolution of iDrive with QuickSelect tapping into the new BMW Operating System 8.5.
Both cars feature new exterior paint finishes and light-alloy wheels, unusually styled headlights and optionally available Laserlight taillights.
Interior features are apparent upon entry to the cabin include: the revised design of the steering wheels and instrument panel, the seat coverings, the interior trim elements and the optionally available CraftedClarity glass applications for selected controls.
With the new BMW iDrive featuring QuickSelect, customers can spend more opting for an augmented view display for the navigation system.
Far from being merely a rehashed 3 Series, the 4 Series is differentiated in its design, proportions, lines, and distinctive front-end visuals. The sporty model has wider tracks and specific chassis tuning compared with 3 Series vehicles.
Two individual rear seats help ensure passengers also enjoy an intense driving experience while the folding function of the three-section split rear seat bench increases the versatility of the interior.
The four seat Convertible provides what BMW calls the “joy” of open-top motoring from an electrically operated panel bow soft-top roof that combines the solidity of a retractable hard-top with the classical aesthetic of a convertible.
The roof can be deployed at up to 50km/h opening/closing in 18 seconds.
The model features available efficient mild hybrid (MHEV) engines, optimised aerodynamics (Cd 0.25 or 0.27 for Coupe and Convertible) and lightweight design to cut emissions and fuel consumption.
Weight savings are made using aluminium to the bonnet, front side panels and doors along with numerous chassis components.
A range of powertrains is available for the new 4 Series comprising petrol and diesel engines using TwinPower turbo technology and 48V electrification.
BMW says all the drive units deliver an exceptional blend of sporting driving pleasure and fuel economy, all are part of the current modular generation of Efficient Dynamics engines and all are mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission as standard.
Paddle shifters are standard across all 4 Series variants.
Straight-six engines are fitted to all M Performance versions in both hard and soft top variants including the 430d xDrive Coupe and Convertible, with a diesel engine outputting 210kW.
The line-up also includes two four-cylinder petrol engines developing 135kW and 180kW respectively and a 140kW four-cylinder diesel. Power is fed to the road by rear-wheel or all-wheel drive model dependent.
All six-cylinder in-line engines and the diesel are fitted with 48V mild hybrid technology adding performance, economy, and efficiency.
Dynamics are assisted by increased body rigidity, aerodynamics, weight reduction and a 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution. Lift-related dampers refine the balance between sportiness and long-distance comfort.
Various M Performance options are available for customising the cars including M Sport suspension, adaptive M suspension with variable sport steering, and M Sport brakes.
The luxurious new models are equipped with an extensive array of systems for automated driving and parking.
The 4 Series comes out of BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, which is the source of many other executive class and luxury segment cars from the brand including the high-performance M4 models.
