Chrysler electric vehicles step into the limelight21 Jan 2008 NO LONGER required to share the limelight with Daimler at Detroit, the reborn Chrysler presented a trio of electric vehicles that also pointed to future styling across its brands – Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep – at this week’s show. The concept cars herald the emergence of an electric powertrain system dubbed Environmentally Responsible Electric Vehicle, or ENVI. The Chrysler version is called the ecoVoyager and uses a next-generation lithium-ion battery module with a driving range of 64km. Chrysler said a hydrogen fuel cell range extender means the concept car can run 483km until it needs another charge. The motor produces 200kW, which is driven through the front wheels – it is enough power to push the green machine from 0-100km/h in around eight seconds.
