Genesis GV90 electric flagship delayed again

Report suggests self-driving tech, other factors setback launch of GV90 range-topper

29 Jan 2026

GENESIS is reported to have again delayed the launch of its all-electric GV90 flagship due to “unresolved technical challenges” related to the vehicle’s complex Level 3 autonomous driving technology and other factors.

Additionally, and citing sources familiar with the project, outlet The Korean Car Blog says the roll-out of Genesis’ ambitious luxury SUV – originally slated for April 2026 release – has been delayed until the second half of this year at the earliest as the South Korean manufacturer adjusts to a new leadership team tasked with conducting “a deep strategic review of upcoming flagship products”, including the GV90.

While flagship vehicles often serve as brand-defining statements, just as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has for generations, any shift in executive vision can result in changes to product positioning and timing, depending on where its priorities fall.

The Korean Car Blog further suggests that the full-size electric SUV is delayed because of a delay in access to Level 3 autonomous driving technology available in Genesis’ competitors.

Launching the GV90 without Level 3 autonomous could risk undermining its position as a technological flagship, with sources indicating to The Korean Car Blog that Genesis is unwilling to reveal the model until such time as its autonomous driving technology suite meets internal benchmarks.

Despite the delay, prototypes of the Genesis GV90 – which are based heavily upon the Genesis Neolun concept pictures – have been spotted in testing with trapdoor-like panels in the body work, potentially concealing new-generation radar- or LiDAR modules.

Further, the coach doors seen in some prototype examples also appear to have vanished from the latest examples observed, suggesting a strategic decision to simplify the GV90, focusing instead on production readiness and costs.
