Hot new Genesis G80 EV Magma Concept revealed

G80 EV Magma Concept joins updated Genesis Electrified G80 on the stage in Beijing

GENESIS has unveiled its updated Electrified G80 sedan this week alongside a striking G80 EV Magma Concept at the Beijing Auto Show.

 

The debut follows the recent reveal of the broader Magma range, a performance-oriented line-up GoAuto understands will come to rival that of Audi Sport, BMW M, and Mercedes-AMG.

 

While details on both the Magma range and the Genesis G80 EV Magma Concept are thin, it is understood the dual-motor show car rides on wider and lower track-tuned suspension and features larger diameter brake rotors behind lightweight 21-inch alloy wheels.

 

The concept model is characterised further by a bespoke grille, a more aggressive front bumper cover, wider guards, rear bumper diffuser with integrated fog light and ducktail spoiler, and inside by combination Alcantara and quilted leather upholstery with blue stitch work, and carbon-fibre garnishing.

 

“The introduction of the Genesis Magma to China signifies our expansion into a new frontier of the driving experience,” said Genesis global design head SangYup Lee.

 

“(The) GV80 EV Magma Concept is a stunning expression of both our design and engineering capabilities, as well as our commitment to meet the ever-evolving needs of Chinese consumers in pursuit of ultimate performance, represented by the beautiful and China-exclusive Acme Blue.”

 

The updated Electrified G80, also shown in Beijing, was also presented in blue, this time Vision Blue.

 

With a 130mm longer wheelbase, Micro Lens Array headlight technology, restyled bumper covers, 19-inch alloy wheels, and additional chrome garnishing, the 2025 Genesis Electrified G80 is also fitted with an electrically activated charge port cover.

 

Inside, the plush, recliner-style rear seats feature an ottoman, memory function, and massage functionality alongside heating and ventilation.

 

The pews allow well-heeled passengers to further enjoy the improvements made in noise, vibration and harshness on the Genesis sedan, which also receives technology updates including the 27.0-inch OLED screen found in the revised GV70 and GV80 ranges, and a 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium surround sound package.

 

Genesis Australia has confirmed the arrival of its updated G80 flagship for local showrooms. Due here towards the middle of 2024, the rival to the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class is yet to be priced, however the importer saying more details will follow in due course.
