Future models - GMC - Hummer EVEarthCrusier takes on Hummer’s EV pick-upUS overland market goes green with a little help from Aussie-founded EarthCruiser25 Aug 2023 By MATT BROGAN AUSTRALIAN-founded firm EarthCruiser has partnered with GMC to build a ‘green’ Hummer EV Camper in readiness for the forthcoming Overland Expo.
The exhibition, which ranks as one of the biggest in the US, will showcase the EarthCruiser GMC Hummer Upfit as a green, quasi-factory camping and overlanding machine that can stay off-grid for up to a week – without using a single kWh of the Hummer’s high-voltage battery.
The EarthCruiser GMC Hummer Upfit features in integrated tri-layer pop-up carbon-fibre body to offer all-season comfort and adequate space to house a double bed, sink, induction cooker, fridge/freezer, hot water unit, outdoor shower, and cassette-style toilet.
There is over two metres of headroom available inside and 890mm above the bed.
Power is supplied by an onboard 12-volt / 6kWh lithium-ion battery pack connected to a 1500W inverter to offer 12- and 120-volt power. The battery may be charged externally via a domestic plug, or a 605-watt solar panel affixed to the roof.
The entire system is controlled from a neatly integrated 7.0-inch touchscreen display within the camper’s kitchen.
EarthCruiser says the GMC Hummer Upfit has 50 litres of filtered freshwater and 26 litres of grey water capacity. There are also myriad storage cubbies throughout, including a cavernous area underneath the bed.
While the duo has not provided weight and dimensions for the Upfit body, it is obvious that such an addition will impact the tri-motor Hummer EV’s range.
As standard, the Hummer EV is available in three variants offering up to 613km of driving range – and with 745kW of power at your command, it is bound to be one pretty quick camper.
Pricing has not been discussed, but if the Extreme 330 TRX6X6 unveiled by EarthCruiser last week is anything to go by, it is bound to be exxy.
EarthCruiser will commence production of the GMC Hummer Upfit for Hummer EV Pick-Up owners from next year. GMC has said the module will not be covered by its factory warranty.
