Future models - Polestar - 4Polestar 4 teased ahead of Shanghai debutSino-Swedish EV maker to showcase first coupe-SUV at Shanghai Auto Show12 Apr 2023 By MATT BROGAN POLESTAR will reveal its long-awaited Polestar 4 electric coupe-SUV at next week’s Shanghai Auto Show.
The rival to Tesla’s Model Y and forthcoming Porsche Macan EV will join the 2 and 3 in the Sino-Swedish EV maker’s line-up, combining what Polestar says are “the aerodynamics of a coupe with the space of an SUV in a package enhanced by modern technology”.
Many of the design cues and sustainability enhancements showcased in earlier concept models are understood to have made it into the production model, with Polestar adding that the 4 will also be its fastest production car to date.
Given the Polestar 1 boasted a 0-100km/h time of 4.2 seconds, that means the Polestar 4 will be rather brisk.
Polestar’s single teaser image shows a top-down view of the 4’s headlight cluster and bonnet, showing a similar profile to the Polestar 3 with sharp crease lines and a familiar headlight design.
“(The) Polestar 4 is not simply a modified version of our first SUV. Instead, we reconsidered the entire design to create a new breed of SUV coupé,” said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath.
Early reports say Polestar’s fourth fully electric model will slot between the sedan-like 2 and related 3 SUV (although likely on different PMA1 architecture) in terms of physical size with range expectations in vicinity of 600km.
It is understood both two- and all-wheel drive configurations will be offered with pricing to closely resemble that of the Polestar 3, which will start locally from $132,900 plus on-road costs.
The Polestar 4 coupe-SUV will be followed by the 5 four-door coupe and 6 roadster, both likely to make their formal showroom debut in 2024.
The Swedish-based manufacturer has grand ambitions for its SUV and coupe-SUV duo with plans to produce 160,000 units annually by 2025. It has said previously that it aims to sell 43,000 examples of the Polestar 4 across the globe by the end of next year, and 79,000 units the following year.
Production will begin in Ningbo, China later in 2023 alongside the Zeekr 001.
The Shanghai Auto Show will commence on April 18.
