Skoda Australia general manager communications Paul Pottinger told GoAuto the Citigo-e was not well suited to the local market, but nevertheless it is still slated for a global reveal on May 23 alongside the plug-in hybrid Superb large car.
Set to be the first all-electric production model from the Czech manufacturer, a single sketched image was posted on Skoda’s Twitter account giving a look at the design of the Citigo-e.
The Citigo-e’s styling largely mirrors that of the internal-combustion version, which is now getting a bit long in the tooth, having been introduced globally in 2011 and facelifted in 2017.
Much of the front fascia carries over, including the bulbous headlights and signature Skoda grille, which has appeared to be filled in as befitting an electric vehicle.
A sporty front bumper adds visual flair, as do large alloy wheels that will most likely be slightly more modest in production form.
The sketch shows the Citigo-e plugged into a charging source, with the charging point replacing the petrol version’s fuel cap.
No details have been revealed on what outputs or range the Citigo-e will be capable of, however it could share the same set-up as the mechanically related Volkswagen e-Up.
The e-Up employs a single electric motor on the front axle and a 230kg, 18.7kWh lithium-ion battery, for a combined total output of 60kW/210Nm.
Driving range for the e-Up is pegged at around 160km, however reports suggest the Citigo-e will step that number up to 300km, which would likely result in a larger battery than the Volkswagen.
Definitive details on the Citigo-e will be revealed at the model’s debut in Bratislava, Slovakia on May 23.
