Skoda teases Enyaq electric SUV

SKODA has revealed a series of teaser images for its first-ever all-electric vehicle, the Enyaq SUV, ahead of its official debut on September 1.

The series of design sketches show a vehicle that carries over a number of Skoda design hallmarks while also setting itself apart from the rest of the range, with an aggressive and modern overall look.

From the front, the Enyaq sports headlights that keep a similar basic shape to its stablemates but with a slimmer profile, while the daytime running light strip along the bottom of the lighting cluster is complemented by a series of smaller vertical strips, giving the LED cluster the appearance of eyelashes.

The geometric arrangement of the headlights is a subtle nod to the art of Czech crystal, with two primary hexagonal lighting modules.

At the rear, the intricate design gives the tail-lights a 3D-like effect, with a primary LED strip surrounded by a set of smaller, crystal-like light signatures.

The Enyaq’s front fascia features the recognisable Skoda radiator grille, which has been set higher into the vehicle’s front end, which combines with a descending roofline, large alloy wheels and long wheelbase to give it a unique set of proportions.

Achieving a unique shape is no small part thanks to the use of Volkswagen Group’s MEB electric platform, with the production version set to check in at 4648mm long, 1877mm wide and 1618mm tall with a 2765mm wheelbase.

Up to 585 litres of cargo volume will also be on offer.

As an electric vehicle, low levels of resistance are of crucial importance, with Skoda’s engineers able to bring the Enyaq’s drag coefficient down to 0.27Cd.

Concrete details on its powertrain remain up in the air, however one could point to other VW Group vehicles as a clue, such as the upcoming Volkswagen ID.4 SUV.

The ID.4 will feature a claimed range of over 500km on the WLTP cycle, and will be offered in both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations. 

As for power, the Vision iV concept which the Enyaq is based on produced 225kW, giving it ample motivation for a car of its size.

Inside, teaser sketches show the Enyaq will feature a clean, broad dash separated by a large, tablet-style infotainment system with a dash and centre console featuring minimal levels of clutter.
