First look: Skoda hatches production Yeti, Fabia Scout

Big foot: The Yeti does exist - at Skoda's Geneva stand.

Skoda Yeti and Fabia Scout are under Australian consideration

3 Mar 2009

SKODA has revealed its fifth model – the production version of its cheeky new Yeti compact crossover – ahead of its worldwide debut at Geneva on March 3, when the conceptually similar Fabia Scout will also appear globally for the first time.

Both models are under consideration by Skoda Australia, which this week also announced the availability of VW’s acclaimed DSG automated manual transmission in the petrol-powered Octavia RS.

Skoda says the 4.2-metre five-door Yeti, which is a higher-riding, plastic-clad take on the Roomster theme, will be available in Europe in both front and all-wheel drive formats, powered by 77kW 1.2 TSI, 118kW 1.8 TSI and 81kW/103kW/125kW 2.0 TDI engines.

The production Yeti features 17-inch alloy wheels and removable rear seats, extending rear luggage space to a sizeable 1760 litres, and is claimed to offer both hatchback practicality and outstanding off-road ability.

Meantime, Skoda revealed the first images of its new Fabia Scout on February 19. Compared to its donor model in the small Fabia hatch, which itself is yet to be confirmed for Australian release, Skoda’s latest Scout features a revised front bumper, higher ride height, silver roof rails and extra plastic cladding.

While the Octavia Scout TDI is priced at $39,990 in Australia, the Fabia Scout will be available in Europe from late May with 63kW 1.4 and 77kW 1.6-litre petrol engines, plus 59kW 1.4 and 77kW 1.9-litre diesel engines – the latter returning just 4.9L/100km.

Unique Fabia Scout features include ‘Scout’ floor mats, stainless steel and rubber pedal covers, Scout tailgate badging, 16 and 17-inch ‘Arktos’ alloy wheels, corner-design foglights and tinted windows.
