After years of watching the lucrative mid-size SUV segment boom without a right-hand drive contender of its own, Mercedes-Benz was finally able to offer the new GLC for the local market in late 2015.
The range was introduced with a choice of two diesels and one petrol, and the option to upgrade to a sportier AMG Line pack that added lowered suspension, bodykit and unique wheels.
The German car-maker conservatively predicted sales of about 200 per month, but customers responded to the break in a mid-size Mercedes SUV drought with a much warmer reception than expected, and nearly 1000 were registered before the year's end.
