MG Motor released its first-ever SUV in Australia with the neatly designed GS series.

Based on an all-new SUV-only architecture known as SAIC Scalable, the GS’ 2650mm wheelbase is one of the longest in its Small SUV segment, while width and cargo space are actually greater than the mid-sized Mazda CX-5’s from the class above.

Two Euro 5 emissions-rated four-cylinder direct-injection petrol engines were launched. Co-developed with GM, the 119kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo twin-cam ‘Cube Tec’ unit drives the front wheels only via either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT dual-clutch transmission. Moving to the Essence X AWD, it uses a 162kW/350Nm 2.0-litre twin-cammer, driving through a six-speed DCT.

The GS employs a multi-link rear suspension system, a pseudo MacPherson strut front-end arrangement, and electric rack and pinion steering. MG Motor designed and engineered the SUV in England.
