Hyundai Mighty Electric now available in Oz

Pricing, warranty, servicing and dealer details announced for Hyundai Mighty Electric truck

10 Oct 2023

HYUNDAI has announced pricing, warranty, servicing and dealer details for its Mighty Electric truck range, the competitor to the Foton T5, Fuso Canter, Hino 300 Series, and Isuzu N Series now available to order from $150,000 plus on-road costs.

Initially available as a cab-chassis model fitted with a Hyundai Genuine Accessories alloy tray, or with a customer-fit body. The Hyundai supplied tray measures 4200mm long by 2353mm wide with a similar sized Pantech box body to be offered in due course.

Hyundai’s Mighty Electric truck measures 6140mm in length and rides on a 3300mm wheelbase. GVM is listed at 7300kg and payload 4050kg, less the weight of a fitted body.

The first-ever Hyundai Mighty Electric truck will be offered through a network of six dealerships nationally (see below), with Hyundai Motor Company Australia (HMCA) saying the dealer network will be expanding over the coming months.

Powering the Hyundai Mighty Electric truck is a permanent magnet synchronous motor outputting 120kW and 320Nm. Drive is to the rear axle via a single-speed reduction gear, with the differential ratio listed at 5.375:1. The model has a top speed of 100km/h.

The Hyundai Mighty Electric truck is fitted as standard with a 114.5kWh lithium-ion battery that is said to offer up to 200km driving range when operating at GVM in urban conditions and with the air-conditioning switched on.

An Eco mode is also fitted to the Mighty Electric as standard, reducing power consumption and limiting power output to maximise range.

Charging is offered via a 6.6kW AC or 100kW/800V DC charger and CCS 2 port. An eight to 100 per cent charge is said to take approximately 71 minutes, with a 100km “top up” charge taking 20 minutes.

HMCA says the Mighty Electric is fitted with multiple driving features to “optimise driving efficiency and make the driving experience as pleasant and safe as possible”.

Two-stage regenerative braking allows up to 33 per cent of the braking energy to come from the electric motor, the first setting providing 0.07g of decelerative force and the stronger second setting 0.14g.

The Mighty Electric’s front and rear drum service brakes are air actuated while the steering is an electro-hydraulic arrangement backed by tilt-and-reach adjustment. The cabin also equipped with a driver’s suspension seat, 24-volt power outlets, storage binnacles and rotary shift-by-wire transmissions control.

Other standard equipment includes dusk-sensing headlights, LED daytime running lights, heated wing mirrors, cruise control, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a 7.0-inch infotainment array, and “hard wearing” grey fabric upholstery.

On the safety front, the Hyundai Mighty Electric is equipped with vehicle and pedestrian detecting forward collision avoidance (camera and radar), lane keep assist, lane departure warning, a reversing camera, front airbags, hill start assist, and traction control.

From launch, the Hyundai Mighty Electric will be offered in Creamy White or Hyper Silver paint colours.

The Hyundai Mighty Electric is backed by a five-year/200,000km vehicle warranty and eight-year/400,000km battery warranty. Service intervals are set at 12 months or 20,000km, whichever comes first, with service pricing calculated to “less than $4300” for the first five years/100,000km.

“The Hyundai Mighty Electric makes for the ideal last mile or back-to-base light-duty commercial truck, for businesses wanting to reduce their driving emissions,” said HMCA chief operating officer, John Kett.

“The Mighty Electric is best suited to urban environments, with its zero driving emissions, a quiet electric motor and high energy efficiency at lower speeds. The smoothness and quietness of operation will help reduce driver fatigue and enhance road safety.

“When we previewed the Mighty Electric at the Brisbane Truck Show in May, we were overwhelmed by the level of serious interest in the vehicle from operators who were eager to sample the product. They were also encouraged that a well-known OEM such as Hyundai Motor Company Australia was moving into this market.

“There is no doubt that the era of zero driving emission commercial vehicles is upon us, and that Hyundai Motor Company Australia will deliver to customers a real-world, commercially viable product that meets their needs and aspirations.”
