Hyundai denies Jeep bid

Scuttled: Hyundai has sunk Jeep take-over rumours.

South Korean car giant says it will not buy the iconic Jeep brand from Chrysler

18 Nov 2008

HYUNDAI Motor Company has denied it held talks with Chrysler owner Cerberus Capital Management about acquiring the Jeep brand.

A spokesperson for the South Korean auto giant said the speculation, which stemmed from unnamed sources cited in a Reuters news wire report last week, was not correct.

The spokesperson said HMC was not planning to buy Jeep or other Chrysler assets and that it was continuing its investment in new plants and facilities in Europe and other overseas countries.

“We have little room for acquisition of an overseas company such as Chrysler,” she told Dow Jones Newswires.
