Audi further expanded its Q-branded SUV line-up in February 2017 with the release of the compact Q2, which targetted a younger demographic of buyers for the German car-maker.

Initially, there was a choice between two powerplants – a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol or a 110kW/340Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-pot diesel – which were later joined by the range-topping 140kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four mid-year.

A seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission was standard fair for the Q2, but Quattro all-wheel-drive was the sole domain of the oil-burner.

Equipment levels were plentiful, but so was the options list with its various technology, convenience and safety packages that tempted customers.

The manufacturer's local arm touted the Q2's potential for customisation as a strong selling point, as there were 12 paint colours to choose from, as well as the ability to colour contrast the C-pillar, roof and lower body.
