The venerable BMW 5 Series has always been one of the better handling and performing contenders in the luxury large car segment, so it is understandable that the German car-maker confined the latest update of the 5 Series range to its equipment and styling only.
If it aint broke…
Its main rival, the E-Class from Mercedes-Benz, is just managing to stay ahead in the sales-race thanks largely to the recent introduction of an upgraded model, but BMW has responded with a refresh of its current model you see here, replete with sharper value across the board.
Along with the additional standard equipment, the 5 Series range has had a minor facelift and, while some models have seen a mild increase in price (between $400 and $1400), price reductions on other models are between $1400 on the 528i and a whopping $20,100 from the cost of a 550i.
We drove a handful of value-added 5 Series’ to see if the revitalisation is enough to keep up the fight against Mercedes.
