Ford hits the mark for buyers wanting a working ute with its new F6
22 Aug 2008
SO who is right – Ford or Holden? The former’s gone for the workhorse with the FG Falcon Ute while the latter is happy to haul in younger and ‘lifestyle’ orientated buyers with its VE ‘sports’ ute contender. Either way, Australians are on a winner, but only the Ford offers the breadth of abilities to please both quite disparate demographic groups with its latest mainstream Ute variant, the R6.

Ford BF II Falcon XLSReleased: Oct 2006
Ended: May 2008
Family Tree: Falcon Ute
THE BA-BF Ute took up most of the wide-reaching changes that came about with the arrival of the BA sedan when it arrived in late 2002, but maintained the old leaf-spring rear suspension system. Just like the AU ute, which sold quite well compared to the AU sedan, it was available as a cab-chassis or with a Styleside box, plus a substantially upgraded DOHC 4.0-litre I6 in 190kW/383Nm petrol or 156kW/372Nm E-gas LPG option. Gearbox choices were a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. You can spot the BF II by its smoother nose compared to earlier editions. The XLS was replaced by the R6 model with 2008’s FG series.
