THE ES is back! Lexus’ other mid-size offering that sits alongside the GS ended its 14-year run on the local market in 2006, after the Japanese car-maker elected to build the fifth-generation model in left-hand drive only.
A fairly healthy number of ES buyers took umbrage to its premature death and Lexus Australia heard their cries, lobbying parent company Lexus International to re-instate right-hand drive production for the next-generation model.
After a bit of delay, the ES returns with competitive pricing, a sharp design, smooth ride and for the first time in the model’s history, a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.
While it has only been a few years since the ES last graced our shores, the luxury market has become even more competitive with European car-makers lowering entry prices to their mid-size offerings as well as new offerings from the likes of Infiniti.
Can the ES regain its place as the favourite for baby boomers?
