Super TestCar reviews - Lexus - IS - 200tLexus modelsOverviewA sweet turbocharged engine does wonders for Lexus' already lovely IS26 Sep 2015 WHEN Lexus finally launched its third-generation IS mid-size sedan in mid-2013, it was met with mostly positive reviews and a lift in sales for the Japanese luxury brand. One area that Lexus was pulled up on, however, was its entry level 2.5-litre V6 powertrain under the bonnet of the IS250. While it was a solid unit, it was ageing and thirsty and highlighted how Toyota’s luxury arm had been left behind by not embracing turbocharging. Thankfully Lexus has spent some time developing a new small-capacity 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine to compete with similar units from Benz, BMW, Audi and Jaguar. Lexus might not have been first to the party, but we are sure glad it turned up because with the turbo engine powering the IS200t, the plucky mid-sizer moves from being a good car to a great car.
