Super TestCar reviews - Lotus - Elise - SC convertibleLotus modelsOverviewLotus launches a 163kW supercharged version of its light and luscious Elise25 Apr 2008 By LUC BRITTEN Lotus has introduced a new boosted version of its Elise roadster. The Elise SC sits at the top of the range at $104,990, well above the $69,990 Elise S and the $94,990 Elise R. The Elise S uses a 100kW Toyota four-cylinder engine, while the Elise R uses a 141kW version. Lotus has pulled out a supercharger for the SC, which boosts the power to 163kW and raises torque to 212Nm. It’s a slightly different system to the Exige S coupe as it doesn’t run an intercooler and delivers its power in a more progressive manner. The Elise SC weighs just 870kg, which enables it to blast from 0-100km/h in just 4.6 seconds - making it the fastest ever Elise. Weighing just 690kg, the cute Elise gave nimble a new name. There wasn’t much punch on offer from the 88kW twin-cam Rover four-cylinder, but the low weight figure meant the Elise was still a quick car. There was hardly any equipment in the car, but it did promise thrilling steering and handling that could flatter the most ham-fisted driver. |
