Super TestCar reviews - Mercedes-Benz - A-class - hatch rangeMercedes-Benz modelsOverviewMercedes-Benz launches a bigger, better second-generation A-class hatch6 May 2005 THE Mercedes A-Class has evolved into a bigger, better-looking compact hatchback with better ride and handling, more interior space and a wider range of engines ranging from 1.5 to 2.0 litres. The mini Benz also now comes in three and five-door versions, the former coming in at less than $30,000, which should be a big selling point for Mercedes. The dynamics are definitely improved, although the base version struggles with just 70kW and the upright body still makes it sensitive to crosswinds. Transmissions are better though, with conventional five and six-speed (in the forthcoming turbo version) and a smooth CVT available with all engine variants.
