Super TestCar reviews - Mercedes-Benz - AMG GT - SMercedes-Benz modelsOverviewMercedes' AMG GT S hits Mount Panorama hard17 Jul 2015 NO, THE Mercedes-AMG GT S is not a replacement for the mighty SLS supercar. It is a thoroughbred high-performance sportscar, built to go fast on the track and look great when going slower, with day to day usability. Sharing the all-new hand-built 4.0-litre V8 of the AMG C63, the GT has bags of power, but with a lower centre of gravity, just two seats and a sharpened no-compromise chassis, it promises to turn the dial up to 11 and take the fight to the 911. Instead of finding a picturesque winding Tasmanian road or arrow-straight Northern Territory strip to launch one of its most significant cars to date, Mercedes cut straight to The Chase – literally – and closed the iconic Mount Panorama raceway for a week of AMG heaven. In terrifying conditions, we climbed aboard the vicious AMG GT S for a few laps of one of the most famous and unforgiving tracks Australia has to offer – and lived to tell the tale.
