Super TestCar reviews - Mercedes-Benz - Sprinter - commercial rangeMercedes-Benz modelsResearch Mercedes-Benz OverviewMercedes-Benz workhorse Sprinter gets heart transplant - and CNG option22 Feb 2010 MERCEDES-BENZ might be associated with luxury, but a significant proportion of the brand’s volume comes from it workhorse van division. Mercedes has just released a significantly upgraded Sprinter van and cab chassis range with more potent diesel engines, a new transmission and more safety gear. The company is also sticking its toe in the water with a dual-fuel Sprinter that can run on petrol or compressed natural gas (CNG). Some trucks and buses already run on CNG which is not only emits fewer nasty pollutants than diesel and petrol, but is also remarkably cheap given Australia has so much of the stuff. The CNG engine is a 1.8-litre supercharged four cylinder with a traditional petrol tank and up to five gas tanks stored under the floor. Other engine options include a new 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel and a torquey 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel.
