PEUGEOT’S new 407 is entering a segment populated by arguably the car industry’s biggest underachievers – front-wheel drive prestige/luxury vehicles. After 120 years, you’d think many would have sorted out how they feel and steer. Being a Peugeot though, you know the 407 is sorted in this regard. But, in top-line SV Touring guise, it exhibits one unexpected trait that may shock.

Family Tree: 407Peugeot's 407 sedan arrived as the successor to its popular 406 mid-sized model in September 2004. The 407 (Touring) wagon and turbo-diesel variants went on sale here in january 2005. Direct predecessor to the 407 SV V6 Touring tested here is the 406 SV wagon, launched in Australia in August 1999 and priced at $59,600. It featured a 144kW 3.0-litre V6, which offered 157kW from June 2001 in the facelifted D9 version.
