Super TestCar reviews - Toyota - Hilux - TRD dual-cab ute rangeToyota modelsOverviewFinally, Toyota delivers on its promise to produce a supercharged, TRD-badged HiLux14 Apr 2008 By LUC BRITTEN Toyota’s TRD (Toyota Racing Developments) brand finally presents its second model, about eight months after the TRD Aurion, but the TRD HiLux is a very different beast. Based on the four-wheel drive HiLux SR5 Dual-Cab, the TRD version brings a huge increase in performance thanks to a supercharged version of the 4.0-litre V6 that produces 225kW of power at 5400rpm and 453Nm of torque at 3400rpm (compared with 175kW and 376Nm for the standard HiLux). Although the leaf-spring rear suspension remains, Bilstein ‘monotube’ shock absorbers are fitted to improve handling and ride both on and off-road. The 4000S model opens the range at $59,990, while the 4000SL at $64,990 gets a more swish interior and a switchable centre differential that is essential for off-road work and stability.
