PEUGEOT Australia will add four-door sedan and five-door Touring versions of the new V6 HDi turbo-diesel engine that debuted Down Under this month in the first oil-burning 407 coupe.

The new Euro IV emissions-compliant V6 HDi sedan and Touring will go on sale around October after its debut at the Sydney motor show.

It will supplement the existing 2.2-litre four-cylinder ST, 2.0-litre HDi and 3.0-litre petrol V6 models.

Peugeot Australia spokesman Mathew McAuley said that, like the 407 Coupe, the sedan and Touring would be well-specified.

Visually it gets a chrome-plated grille and body coloured side mouldings.

The 2.7-litre twin-turbo diesel develops 152kW at 4000rpm and 440Nm from just 1900rpm and has received acclaim for its power, smooth operation and economy.

Like the 407 Coupe, the V6 HDi sedan and Touring are expected to be mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, with tiptronic-style shift controls.

The 2.7-litre turbo-diesel is shared with the Land Rover Discovery III and the Jaguar S-type.

Mr McAuley said the 407 Coupe, which is on sale now, had garnered a lot of interest from buyers at the recent Melbourne motor show, as well as last year’s Sydney motor show.

"We took about 800 expressions of interest in the coupe," he said.

Prospective buyers also commented on the price point for the car. The Coupe is $72,500 for the fully-equipped six-speed auto, which represents a $2510 premium over the V6 petrol model, which costs $69,990.

Apart from the 2.7 HDi, the Coupe will also be available with the 155kW/290Nm 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine.
