New models - Hyundai - i40Hyundai i40 is all eyesFlagship Hyundai i40 gets extra ‘Premium’ safety features14 Mar 2013 HYUNDAI has added an automated parking system and lane departure warning its its flagship i40 premium sedan and wagon in exchange for a $1000 price increase. As is commonplace in other park assist technology, the Hyundai Smart Parking Assist System uses an array of ultrasonic sensors (ten on the i40) and a rear facing camera. The system provides steering inputs for reverse parallel parking only, while prompting the driver with instructions on how much throttle and brake to apply. The Lane Departure Warning and Assist System alerts the driver both audibly and visually if the vehicle crosses a lane marking without indication. The system will also intervene with steering inputs if the driver does not respond to warnings. Both systems are operated and monitored through the 4.2-inch dash-mounted display. The addition of active safety features to the Euro-focused i40 could be seen as an extension of the brand’s ‘modern premium’ philosophy. The recent specification improvements follow other i40 quality recognitions such as a gold EuroCarBody award in 2011 as well as five-star euro NCAP and ANCAP ratings.
