Peugeot tweaks 3008, adds 508 GT Touring

Wagons ho: Peugeot has increased the appeal of its 508 Touring by adding a flagship GT variant with grunty 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine and unique front suspension.

Extra value offsets 3008 price rise as Peugeot offers top GT spec on 508 Touring

9 Apr 2012

PEUGEOT has spruced up its 3008 crossover with more standard equipment for the 2012 model year and the model now benefits from the French brand’s capped-price servicing scheme.

At the same time, the Peugeot 508 Touring wagon is now available in flagship GT guise formerly reserved for the sedan.

The 3008’s variant naming now falls into line with Peugeot’s new naming convention, with Active replacing XSE as the entry-level version and Allure supplanting XTE to signify the top specification.

Pricing is up $500 across the range, in return for the addition of claimed $2000 worth of extra value on the Active (including Bluetooth and USB connectivity, panoramic glass roof and head-up display) while the Allure gets $2500 worth of leather upholstery.

As with the 308 and 508, MY2012 3008s are eligible for Peugeot’s capped service pricing plan, with scheduled servicing at $330 per visit over the first three years or 60,000 kilometres.

Both variants continue to share a choice of 115kW/250Nm 1.6-litre petrol and 120kW/340Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engines paired with six-speed automatic transmissions.

The 508 GT Touring arrives in showrooms this month priced at $55,990 plus on-road costs to become the most expensive variant of Peugeot’s mid-sizer, while pricing across the rest of the 508 range remains static.

As with the GT sedan, the Touring gets a unique double-wishbone front suspension set-up and grunty 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, which produces 150kW of power and 450Nm of torque, sufficient to haul the load-lugger to 100km/h in 8.4 seconds, two-tenths slower than the sedan.

The GT Touring gets the same standard equipment as the sedan, including 18-inch alloy wheels, directional self-levelling bi-Xenon headlights with adaptive main beam and lens washers, a colour head-up display, and memory setting for the driver’s seat.

On both Touring models, customers can specify a powered tailgate for an extra $1000.

Peugeot sales are down 14.7 per cent so far this year, with all models except the relatively new 508 (no comparative data) and Partner van (down 5.6 per cent) experiencing double-digit downturns.

The brand has sold 333 508s year-to-date, while sales of the 3008 are down 47.1 per cent to 99 YTD, with 64 of those sold last month.
