Peugeot confirms 508 Sportswagon pricing

Load-lugging Sportswagon joins Peugeot’s second-generation 508 range from launch

26 Aug 2019

PEUGEOT Australia has confirmed pricing for the Sportswagon version of its second-generation 508 mid-size car that is now in showrooms, with the load-lugger commanding a $2000 premium over its Fastback sedan sibling, at $55,990 plus on-road costs.

Exclusively offered in flagship GT guise from launch, both the Sportswagon and Fastback are motivated by a 1.6-litre PureTech turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine that produces 165kW of power at 5500rpm and 300Nm of torque at 2750rpm – the most potent unit available in the 508 globally.

It is paired to an Aisin-sourced eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission – which debuted in the recently introduced special-edition 308 GT warm hatch – with drive exclusively sent to the 508’s front wheels.

This combination enables the Fastback to sprint from standstill to 100km/h in 8.1 seconds, while the Sportswagon is only 0.1s adrift.

Claimed fuel consumption on the combined-cycle test is 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres, while carbon dioxide emissions are 142 grams per kilometre.

Riding on PSA Group’s ubiquitous EMP2 platform, the 508 measures 4750mm long, 1860mm wide and 1410mm tall with a 2800mm wheelbase in Fastback form. The Sportswagon is 40mm longer and 10mm taller.

The Fastback’s cargo capacity is 487 litres with the 60/40 split-fold rear bench upright, or 1537L with it stowed. Comparatively, the Sportswagon’s rear storage compartment ranges from 530L to 1780L in size.

As reported, standard equipment in the GT includes 18-inch alloy wheels, dusk-sensing LED headlights, daytime running lights and tail-lights; rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding side mirrors with heating, adaptive dampers (adjustable via four modes) and a hands-free power-operated tailgate.

Inside, a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, satellite navigation, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, DAB+ digital radio, a 10-speaker Focal sound system, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats with massaging functionality, Nappa leather upholstery and ambient lighting feature.

Advanced driver-assist systems extend to autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep and steering assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, blind-spot monitoring, speed-sign recognition, high-beam assist, surround-view cameras and front and rear parking sensors.

The 508’s options list is short, with a panoramic sunroof available for $2500, while six metallic (Nera Black, Celebes Blue, Twilight Blue, Amazonite Grey, Artense Grey and Platinum Grey) and two pearlescent (Pearl White and Ultimate Red) paintworks are offered, priced at $590 and $1050 respectively. Hurricane Grey is the only no-cost solid option.

As with all of Peugeot Australia’s models, the 508 comes with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty as well as five years of roadside assistance and capped-price servicing.

According to Peugeot Australia managing director Ben Farlow, the 508 is ready to make a splash in its class, which is down by 12.4 per cent in the year to date.

“The Peugeot 508 arrives at a time when the sedan segment is ripe for a shake-up. Not only is the 508 outstanding value, it’s great to look at, great to drive and it stands out in its class,” he said.
