Peugeot E-Expert lands Down Under

PEUGEOT has revealed that its E-Expert van has landed in Australia after opening the order books back in May, making this the third all-electric model in the French brand’s arsenal – but it is nearly $30,000 more than the base ICE Expert.

The mid-size electric van will only be offered in long wheelbase guise, which brings a payload of 1001kg and loading volume of 6.1m3, which is in line with the needs of Australian van operators but still down slightly on the diesel version’s 1400kg capacity.

Power from a single electric motor comes in at a modest 100kW/260Nm, supplied by a 75kWh battery, which Peugeot claims is good for a WLTP range of 330km. The manufacturer did not specify if its range claim is for loaded or unloaded driving.

DC fast charging at up to 100kW will take the E-Expert from zero to 80 per cent charge in 45 minutes, while a three-phase wallbox will take around seven and a half hours. 

The electric E-Expert measures up at 5330mm long, with a width of just over 2200mm and undercover carpark suitable height of 1940mm. Peugeot claims a turning circle of 12.4 metres, despite the vans lengthy form.

Inside, a 10.0-inch central screen and configurable 10.0-inch digital dash handle infotainment and critical information, while the typical wired and wireless smartphone mirroring is also included. An array of parking sensors and 180-degree reversing camera are also standard fare.

Peugeot has included its latest generation ADAS technology, with all the autonomous braking, lane-keeping and driver alerts including an acoustic vehicle alerting system that generates exterior sound when travelling at low speeds.

The E-Expert is covered by a five-year/200,000-kilometre vehicle warranty while the battery gets an eight-year/160,000-kilometre warranty. Capped-price servicing and pre-paid servicing plans are also available.

While the E-Expert comes at a significant price premium over ICE Expert models, of which the comparative Pro Long version is $50,490, the French manufacturer has slashed the prices of both its E3008 and E-Partner by $25,000 and $14,000 respectively in recent months.

Whether the manufacturer plans to pull a similar stunt with the E-Expert is anyone’s guess, but its sizable price slashes surely have not bolstered consumer confidence, particularly amongst commercial buyers, when it comes to paying full price.
