RENAULT Australia has introduced a special-edition flagship Initiale version of its Koleos that adds a number of luxury features and a fresh colour to the mid-size SUV.

The special-edition Koleos is priced from $49,490 driveaway and offered in the exclusive Black Amethyst exterior colour found on other Initiale variants available in international markets.

While the new Koleos variant is pricier than the previous top-spec Intens all-wheel drive’s $43,490 cost, the former’s pricetag includes on-roads whereas the latter’s excludes them.

Helping it stand out from the rest of the Koleos range, the Initiale gains 19-inch alloy wheels, a chrome front grille, Renault’s Pure Vision LED headlights, a power tailgate, unique stitching for the leather upholstery and the exclusive paint.

The Initiale is based on the Koleos Intens specification grade that already includes a panoramic electric sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, and an 8.7-inch touchscreen with Renault’s R-Link2 multimedia system with satellite navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth.

It also features dusk-sensing headlights, automatic wipers, automatic dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and Renault’s Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) featuring Advanced Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Hill Start Assist.

The Initiale uses the same 126kW/226Nm 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine as most other Koleos variants.

Renault Australia corporate communications manager Mel Cross confirmed that the Initiale was not a limited-edition model in the Koleos line-up.

“We have ordered enough stock to satisfy our expected demand,” she said. “We can also increase orders if need be. This is not a limited edition, so we aren’t restricting numbers.”

Ms Cross also said that Renault has no plans to offer Initiale versions of other Renault Australia models.

The Initiale moniker surfaced back in 2013 at the Paris motor show with the Espace MPV-previewing Initiale Paris concept.

The Koleos was Renault’s best-selling model in Australia last year with 3120 sales, up 104.7 per cent over its 2016 result.

Renault’s second-generation Koleos – which is built in South Korea and based on the same underpinnings as the Nissan X-Trail – went on sale in Australia in September 2016.

Renault Australia added a turbo-diesel-powered variant to the Koleos range in August last year priced from $46,990 plus on-road costs.
