While the original Colt nameplate was first sold Down Under in 1964 - as well as being manufactured here between 1980 and 1990 – today’s RG-series Colt, which went on sale in Japan in late 2002, is really Mitsubishi's successor for the popular three-door CE Mirage hatch.
An impressive engineering and design job (it shares much underbody hardware with the Mk2 Mercedes A-class and Smart Forfour), the Mitsubishi deserves to snare buyers from the similar Honda Jazz, Ford Fiesta and Mazda2.
Initially only available with a constantly variable (CVT) automatic gearbox and two well-equipped five-door models (LS, XLS), the Colt has impressive driving characteristics and is very user-friendly.
Power comes courtesy of a 72kW/132Nm 1.5-litre DOHC 16V four-cylinder engine.
