The boxy and rather upright UG Nimbus was even bigger in every direction (although not quite Toyota Tarago tall) than its more stylish predecessor, and approached the Honda Odyssey in concept, as well as in refinement and road manners.
The driving position remained car-like and the floor shift beat the Honda's column shift, hands-down.
Yet it still offered a walk-through cabin and great versatility that allowed an impressive range of seating/sleeping/cargo configurations.
But the extra weight took its toll on the 96kW/210Nm 2.4-litre SOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine.
Gearboxes were again four-speed auto or five-speed manual.
By mid-2001, dual airbags, a CD player and power windows were standard, along with air-conditioning, keyless entry and power steering.
