Holden welcomed back the Astra nameplate in April 2015 after being absent from local markets for seven years.

Engine choices for the new European-sourced hatchback are performance focused, with the iconic Australian brand offering the Astra with either a 125kW/260Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine in the GTC, or a range-topping 206kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged unit in the VXR.

Hoped to fare much better than the Opel badged Astras, which were pulled from the Australian market after just a year, Holden has high hopes for its new small-sized competitor.
