Toyota CelicaCelica ZZT231 (Mk7)1 Nov 1999 The most significant change to the Celica in almost 15 years saw an all-new platform, engine, body and interior. Smaller and lighter than its Camry-based predecessor, the ZZT231 series was far more sports car orientated, and featured futuristic wedge styling that came from its California design studio. An all-new 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine produced 140kW of power, thanks to variable-valve timing (dubbed VVTL-i in Toyota speak). A six-speed manual gearbox was standard, while the four-speed auto option featured a steering wheel-mounted electronic tip-shift function.
