Super TestCar reviews - Ford - Falcon - Futura 5-dr wagonFord modelsUsed Rivals7 May 2003 HOLDEN COMMODORE 4D WAGON (1996-1997) THE VS II Acclaim wagon is such a close competitor to the Futura it is almost a dead-heat. The Holden has slightly less interior space and equipment although dual airbags are standard. Where the Acclaim scores is better handling and good fuel economy, plus a competitive 147kW from the 3.8-litre V6 engine. MITSUBISHI MAGNA 4D WAGON (1997-1999) THE TE/TF Magna does not quite match its Ford and Holden rivals for interior space. It scores with a smooth and refined 3.0-litre, 120kW V6, competitive equipment level and well sorted suspension providing good handling and ride with minimal body roll or understeer. TOYOTA VIENTA 4D WAGON (1995-1997) THE Vienta wagon's unusual rear end styling will not appeal to some people but otherwise it is a worthy rival. The hi-tech 3.0- litre, twin cam V6 has good fuel economy and a competitive 139kW power output. Equipment and on-road behaviour are good although the ride does not quite match the Magna. SUBARU LIBERTY 4D WAGON (1994-1998) THE Subaru can not compete on size but it does have four-wheel drive which gives it exceptional grip and light off-road ability. The equipment level is competitive and the 2.2-litre engine is a good compromise between performance and fuel economy.
