Super TestCar reviews - Ford - Falcon - Futura sedanFord modelsSound System31 Oct 2002 FUTURA offers a 100-watt, four-speaker, single-CD sound system similar to Commodore's new Blaupunkt system. Displaying its major functions on the Interior Command Centre's large LCD screen, the audio system comprises a rear glass-mounted antenna to replace the retractable item, plus speakers in both front doors and on the rear parcel shelf. Echoing the symmetrical design theme of the air-conditioning unit below it, the audio system features a large rotary dial on the correct (right-hand) side to operate volume and power, while another large alloy-look button on the left is split in two halves for station tuning. Between them there is a bank of push-buttons, comprising loud, AM/FM, AS and menu, while preset station and CD repeat, random and pause functions can be selected via the LCD screen's six piano keys. Distorting only at super high volume, the system offers vastly improved sound over on the AU's, with the tactile piano keys and function display delivering more information more conveniently. The system also features auxilliary MP3/PlayStation input, AM noise reduction and speed dependent volume control. The optional Prestige sound system adds an in-dash six-CD stacker, while Fairmont Ghia's Premium sound system adds a colour TFT display and digital sound processing.
