Super TestCar reviews - Ford - Falcon - GLi 5-dr wagonFord modelsUsed Rivals7 May 2003 HOLDEN COMMODORE 4D WAGON (1995-1996) THE VS wagon's interior space and equipment level are good but do not quite match the Falcon. On the other hand, the Commodore's coil spring rear suspension provides better handling. The 3.8- litre Ecotec V6 produces a competitive 147kW with good low-speed torque and surprisingly good fuel economy. TOYOTA VIENTA 4D WAGON (1995-1997) THE Vienta wagon's unusual rear window styling will put some buyers off but otherwise it is a worthy rival. The advanced 3.0 V6 produces a healthy 139kW with better fuel economy than the Falcon or Commodore. Equipment and on-road behaviour are good but the ride does not quite match that of the Magna. MITSUBISHI MAGNA 4D WAGON (1994-1997) THE TS Magna does not quite match its Ford and Holden rivals for interior space or power but the 3.0-litre, 120kW V6 is smooth and refined. The Magna's strong points are a well sorted chassis providing good handling and ride with minimal body roll or understeer. VOLVO 940 4D ESTATE (1992-1994) THE Volvo wagon is reliable and strong with similar passenger and cargo space to the Magna, but a tight interior. In GLE form, the 2.3-litre, four- cylinder engine's output was increased to 100kW and it was sold as an automatic only. The equipment level is comprehensive and includes leather trim.
