Super TestCar reviews - Honda - Prelude - VTi-R coupeHonda modelsEngine13 Feb 2001 By BRUCE NEWTON THE VTi-R's 147kW VTEC engine uses the now-familiar variable-camshaft profile design producing two distinct phases to the engine's power delivery. It uses twin overhead camshafts with four valves per cylinder and is electronically fuel-injected. The engine also now has fibre reinforced metal (FRM) cylinder liners for reduced weight and better heat dispersal properties. The aluminium-alloy block features a new open-deck design replacing the previous closed-deck block. This means the water jacket is open to the cylinder head. Both 2.2-litre engines in the new Prelude range use full floating pistons, aluminium oil pan and improved airflow through the inlet and exhaust.
