Super TestCar reviews - Land Rover - Defender - County 4-dr wagonLand Rover modelsUsed Rivals18 Jun 2003 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER 2D TROOPCARRIER (1985-1992) THE Troopie is another true workhorse. With 11 seats, a gutsy 4.0-litre straight six carburettor engine, five-speed manual box and legendary reliability, it rivals the Land Rover in its work capacity. Excellent resale value. HOLDEN JACKAROO 4D WAGON (1985-1992) SMALLER and less stark, it is not in the same workhorse category, although with a choice of fuel injected 2.6-litre petrol or 2.8- turbo diesel and much lighter weight, performance and economy are superior. NISSAN PATHFINDER 4D WAGON (1992-2001) A MEDIUM-SIZE 4WD with good performance from a 3.0-litre V6 with manual five-speed or optional four-speed auto. Comfortable, excellent ride with coil springs all round. Too flash to be a working vehicle. FORD MAVERICK 4D WAGON (1988-1993) A NISSAN Patrol with a pretty face. Full-sized 4WD with strong 4.2-litre engine (petrol or diesel), seven seats and comfortable interior. Will handle any outback conditions. Power steering standard.
